Stonesoft has introduced its StoneGate UTM (Unified Threat Management) solution for remote office locations. The latest offering enhances the company’s solution suite for physical as well as virtual environments. Available as a part of the StoneGate FW-310 firewall appliance, the StoneGate UTM gives protection to corporate networks, providing for a safe flow of information. Remote offices need direct internet connections. As such connections, generally, do not undergo corporate anti-virus checks, they are a security threat. The StoneGate UTM offers protection from inbound and outbound threats. It assures anti-virus and intrusion prevention for web traffic, e-mail and VoIP.

ClarkConnectIn TechRepublic, Rick Vanover says that provisioning a highly functional yet inexpensive remote network solution for remote sites is a continually evolving challenge. Vanover says that he has started an endeavor that will be considering the ClarkConnect Internet gateway distribution of Linux. The ClarkConnect gateway is based on Red Hat Linux and the 2.6 kernel. ClarkConnect is a full-featured distribution that includes most features that would be needed to facilitate access from a remote site. The open source version of ClarkConnect does not include the full inventory of features included in the commercial editions, but it does provide a comprehensive inventory of features as built.

WXCJuniper Networks Inc. has stepped up its expansion efforts in wide area network (WAN) optimization with a series of three new platforms that are more scaleable, speed up application performance and offer mix-and-match hardware components. The WXC 1800, WXC 2600 and WXC 3400 platforms are at once smaller and quieter and have parts that can be popped out of the structure (for example hard drives and power supplies) without dismounting it. The WXC WAN optimization platforms aim to improve application performance in order to make a remote office function as if it were on the local area network (LAN). The new appliances can accelerate WAN traffic up to 2 Mbps for the WXC 1800 used in small offices, up to 8 Mbps for the WXC 2600 used in medium-sized to large branch offices and small data centers, and up to 45 Mbps for the WXC 3400, which is deployed at higher-speed remote locations, head offices or data centers.
